Step 1: Fluorescein Instillation
Method 1: Instill one drop of Proparacaine with a moistened Fluorescein strip into each eye
Method 2: Instill one Drop of Fluress into the patient’s eyes
Step 2: Make sure the tonometer is bright blue
- Turn up all the illumination knobs
Step 3: Position the patient comfortably
- Make sure the patient’s chin is on the chin rest and forehead is against the bar
- Line up the lateral canthus with the line on the slitlamp
Step 4: Move the slit-lamp forward
- Hold the joystick toward you while moving the slip lamp towards the patient.
- When close to the eye use the joystick to fine turn the placement of the tonometer
Step 5: Adjust the IOP dial to line up the Mires
Step 6: Read Dial
- The patient can sit back
- Each notch on the dial represents a step of 2
- The 1 equals an IOP of 10 and the 2 equals 20.
